Work on the book
Blue John by Berlie Doherty - Year 4
Our class was very lucky because Berlie Doherty, the author of the book, saw our work at a workshop session in Horsham. She wrote to us and thanked us for all our hard work. You can find out about Berlie Doherty on her website at http://www.berliedoherty.com/

We read the book Blue John by Berlie Doherty in Literacy.
We were then divided into groups. Each group acted out two scenes from the book and created a tableau of the scenes. We then took photos and added speech bubbles to the characters. Next, we created a story board and added descriptions of each scene.

We enjoyed the lovely watercolour illustrations and tried to create our own, using the same techniques.

| The book is full of wonderful language. We studied the similes and tried to create our own. We also looked at the powerful adjectives and verbs used by the author and we wrote our own descriptions of the cave and the Queen of Darkness. Our school subscribes to Kids Review and we wrote book reviews of Blue John. Click on the small thumbnails to see some of this work.
