The annual swimming gala organised by Cormorants Swimming Club was very exciting right to the end. There were six different schools taking part, and 29 different races. All the children worked hard as a team, showing respect for all fellow competitors. The JYS team won for the third consecutive year! An amazing achievement

Year 4 worked very hard to learn set routines for floor and vault work for a gymnastics competition.  Unfortunately, the competition was cancelled so they performed the routines to the rest of the class and filmed the work. Click on the photos above

In the spring term, the Year 5/6 Sewing Club undertook a special project to design and create our school’s entry for this year’s ‘Schools’ Art Competition’, run by the Friends of Chartres, in connection with Pallant House Art Gallery. The theme for this year’s competition was ‘the elements’, inspired by the Piper tapestry which hangs in Chichester Cathedral, and all entries had to be textile based......more>>

Year 4 had a fantastic time recently when they had their Aztec day - they created masks, headdresses and Aztec music.  Click here for more photos

Year 3 looked at the story of the "Le Petit Sapin" (the little fir tree) who, when it snows, doesn't get covered like the bigger trees as he is protected by their branches. Father Christmas sees that he is unhappy and takes him to his special garden and covers him in candles and so he becomes the prettiest Christmas tree.
The story has been recorded in French with some stop frame animation. Click on the fir tree to see the video

Over a few weeks, the Year 6 children have been doing Rock Climbing Club at the University of Chichester. We think that it is great, but we could not do it without Mr Garbutt and Mr Neaves. Click here to see more photos of us in action!

As part of the BBC's Stargazing Live events, Year 5 joined in with schools across the country on Thursday 18th January to watch Professor Brian Cox's Live Schools Webcast. We emailed in some of our own questions and, although ours weren't asked directly, it was fascinating to hear him answering some big questions about science! Find out more at:

Year 5 and 6 boys and girls have both been to the Bognor Arena Sports centre to take part in football tournaments.  The boys came second out of 9 schools in a Portsmouth Football Club competition, only losing to the eventual winners.  The girls won their group with some very good football. Rachel scored 7 goals in total, Freya got a hat-trick in one game. They lost to the eventual winners in the quarter finals. The back view of the boys' team shows the super new tops we were able to buy courtesy of Sainsbury's Active Kids.

In Literacy in Year 3 this term we have been looking at some of the stories by Julia Donaldson. Using a "Gruffalo Pop-up Theatre" set, we made our own animated version of the story, filmed and narrated by the children. The film was put together in the editing suite and it had its world premiere in Screen One at Cineworld, Chichester, on Wednesday 7th December. There was silence watching it and then a huge round of applause at the end; the children were obviously thrilled with the results. The press were not in attendance at this time! Outstanding! Click here to see the results of our recent History Ofsted inspection.

Year 4 enjoyed their Tudor day.  They enjoyed Tudor dancing and had a splendid Tudor feast. Click on the thumbnail for a larger copy.

Year 2 had great fun learning about how to create animations and use frames.

Year 3 had an exciting time when they held their Ancient Greek Olympics .  Click on the photo to see a video.

The whole school had a treat when we watched performances from our Street Dance club members.  Rachel Boarer from the Street Dance Company takes classes before school for an hour.  Click on the photos above to see part of the dances.

The new Eco team have already been busy last week the children helped plant fruit trees and a wild life hedge in Priory park  and encouraging everyone to save energy in assembly on Monday  and participate in “Switch off fortnight." Next term we are hoping to focus on waste and recycling with a visit to the Ford recycling plant.

Year 5 recently took part in West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service's 'Test It Tuesday' competition. Each pupil designed an A4 poster for homework to promote this campaign and encourage people to test their smoke alarms on a weekly basis. This photo shows a selection of the 'Test It Tuesday' poster entries, held up by some of the Year 5s on Children in Need day!

On Friday 23rd March 2012, pupils from Jessie Younghusband gathered with pupils from St Anthony's to do 'the sporting mile' on the playing field. They were supported by 'Gully', the mascot from Brighton and Hove Albion FC. As you can see from the photograph, some of the children were dressed in sporting clothes of their choice, but all were wearing smiles as they ran, skipped, walked or were pushed in a wheelchair on the many laps of the field.
